General information only
The tools and articles on this site are provided for general information and everyday utility. Articles explain concepts in plain language to help you make your own decisions; they are not a substitute for the documentation of the standards, software, or services you are working with.
Verify results that matter
Several tools produce numbers that look exact but rest on assumptions, and it is worth knowing which:
- Password strength scores are entropy estimates based on length and character mix. They describe how hard a password is to guess in theory, not how safe an account is in practice — a strong password that is reused, or stored badly by a breached site, protects nobody. Uniqueness and a password manager matter more than any score.
- Hashes are deterministic and exact, but a matching hash only proves that two pieces of data are identical — it says nothing about whether the source you downloaded from was trustworthy. Use hashes alongside reputable sources, not instead of them.
- Contrast ratios are calculated from the WCAG formula and are accurate as arithmetic, but a passing ratio is guidance towards accessibility, not a certification of it. Real accessibility also depends on font size, context, and the needs of actual readers.
- Counts and conversions — word counts, reading times, resized or compressed images — follow sensible conventions that may differ slightly from another program's conventions. If a figure has contractual, academic, or legal weight, confirm it with the tool your examiner, client, or regulator uses.
Accuracy limits
We test the tools carefully, but software has edge cases. Unusual file formats, exotic characters, very large inputs, and differences between browsers can occasionally produce unexpected results. If something a tool returns looks wrong, trust your eyes over the output, and please report it through the contact page so it can be fixed for everyone.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site is professional advice of any kind — not security consulting, not legal, medical, financial, or engineering advice. Explanations of topics such as password security or accessibility standards are educational summaries. For decisions with serious consequences, consult a qualified professional who knows your situation.
Availability and external content
We aim to keep the site available and its content current, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and standards and best practices change over time. Where pages link to external sites, we are not responsible for their content or accuracy.
The honest summary
Use the tools freely and trust them for everyday work — that is what they are for. For the handful of results each year that truly matter, spend the extra minute and verify them independently. Caution scales with consequences.
